Black River Gorges Trek

Trek the island's largest national park: native forest, endemic birds, waterfalls and deep green valleys.

Beyond the roadside viewpoint, the Black River Gorges National Park opens up into the best trekking on the island. Trails of varying length wind through Mauritius's last stretches of native forest, home to rare endemic birds like the pink pigeon, the echo parakeet and the Mauritius kestrel, all brought back from the very edge of extinction.

Routes lead to waterfalls, river crossings and viewpoints looking out over the gorges. Some are gentle walks; others are proper half-day treks. It's the place to come for green, quiet, genuinely wild nature far from the beaches.

Krishna can match a route to your fitness and time, and arrange a guide for the longer trails.
