Casela Nature Park

The island's biggest adventure and wildlife park: safari with lions and giraffes, ziplines, quad trails and big-cat encounters.

Casela, on the west coast near Cascavelle, is the island's biggest adventure and wildlife park. It opened back in 1979 as a bird sanctuary and grew over the decades into a huge nature-and-adventure destination spread across hundreds of hectares, with more than a thousand birds still among its animals, including rare Mauritian species.

The park is laid out in themed zones: an African safari past giraffes, zebras and rhinos, a predator area where you can see (and, for the brave, walk with) big cats, and a thrill mountain with ziplines, a Nepalese bridge, quad and buggy trails and a canyon swing. Between areas you hop on a shuttle, and there are restaurants and a play area for younger children.

It's a full, active day out and a huge hit with families and thrill-seekers. Tell Krishna which activities interest you so the visit can be planned around them, and arrive early to fit everything in.
