Bois Chéri is the oldest tea plantation in Mauritius, dating back to 1892, and the first stop on the island's classic Tea Route. A guided visit walks you through the working factory and its museum, showing how the leaf is picked, dried, rolled and sorted, and telling the story of how tea shaped this part of the island.
The visit ends at a tasting pavilion set high above the plantation, with a sweeping panorama over the rolling green tea fields and the south beyond. You'll sample a range of the estate's teas, from classic black to green, herbal and flavoured blends including its well-known vanilla tea, often with a view as memorable as the drink itself.
It combines naturally with the St Aubin colonial estate just down the road, and many people build a half-day around the two.
